Sabarimala is one of the most famous Hindu pilgrim centers in India. This Temple dedicated to Lord Ayyappa. The word Sabarimala refers to Sabari means character name from Ramayana period and mala means Mountain range. It is located 72 km from Pathanamthitta town, 191 km from Thiruvananthapuram and 210 km from Kochi. Every year crores of devotees from all over the globe come to Sabarimala to take blessings of God.
The pilgrimage season starts in mid-November and ends in mid-January. Mandala pooja is the famous festival celebrated for 41 days which makes one Mandalam. This temple exists in the name of Vavar, a Muslim who was thought to be a close associate of Lord Ayyappa. Makara Jyothi appeared on Jan 14th is the most crowded occasion of this temple. There are no restrictions of caste and religion. This temple is open for men all age group but for women between 10 – 50 years are not allowed into the temple.
