Lonavala is a popular hill station in Pune district of Maharashtra with an attitude of 622 M.Lonavala name derived from Sanskrit which means ‘Groups of caves’.It is also known as Jewel of the Sahyadri Mountains. It is spread over an area of 38 sqkm.
It is also famous for its Chikki ( Kind of Candy). Khandala is one more hill station near to Lonavala, Both are twin hill stations near to Mumbai and Pune highway. During Monsoon season you will find Lush green hills, Waterfalls and lakes where travelers fall in love with this nature and city.
Many Bollywood films have used as their background screen. Travelers can do trekking and hiking. Not only this there is an important Yoga center close to Lonavala. Visitors can enjoy the view and have fun with friends and families. For travelers and tourists, you find India’s Largest Adventure Park like Sky Cycling, Paintball, Rappelling, Rock Climbing, and Dirt Bikes, etc.
Tiger’s Leap :
Tiger’s Leap or Tiger’s Point is a Clifftop and natural landscape located close to I.N.S Shivaji at a height of 650 meters from above the sea level. The hill appears like the shape of a leaping tiger. Visitors can see many waterfalls and excellent views. You can also stay at this place at the top of a cliff with tents and light a bonfire.
During Monsoon season there is a small waterfall near to tiger’s leap. The sunrise and sunset views from this hill. Tourists can do adventure activities like rafting and trekking.
Lion’s Point :
Lions Point is popular Vantage point situated between Bhushi Dam and Amby Valley with an altitude of 760 meters. This place attracts hundreds of tourists during monsoon season. The view from here is amazing and majestic.
The wind is extremely strong at this place. You will get a 180 degree view of the hills. You can observe some tea stalls and snacks like hot corns and veg/non-veg starters which makes the best snack in the cold weather.
Bushi Dam :
Bushi Dam is a stonework dam on the Indrayani River situated in Lonavala was built in 1860’s for the Great Indian Peninsular Railway as a source of water. In monsoon season the water flows out of the dam over a series of steps and passes through rocky terrain here.Moreover, you can sit on the steps and play with your friends and family.
There is a waterfall located very close to the dam. Swimming is prohibited due to the inconsistent flow of water. The dam is also used for generation by power.Tourists are usually allowed to visit the dam from 9 am to 3 pm due to safety purpose.
Della Adventure Park :
Della Adventure Park is the First Indian Largest Adventure Park spread over an area of 5 acres along with around 50 activities located at Kunegaon in Lonavala. It’s complete fun amusement and waterpark where this park can host over 2000 people every day. Perfect place to have fun and find something different new games with friends and family.
The park has 5 different restaurants, 3 bars, 164 rooms, a baggage counter, a medical center and ATM’s. The places take you back to your childhood and chance to shout and enjoy the game. Even you will find resorts to stay in.The park also has nightlife clubs.

Karla Caves :
Karla Caves is also known as Karle Caves is situated at Karli near to Lonavala which built by Buddhist Monks. Its Buddhist rock-cut structures cave temple of beautiful architecture in India. There is 15-meter pillar along with the temple and its dedicated to Goddess Ekveera.
The main cave is the huge prayer or assembly hall with a series of columns which is known as a Chaityagriha and it has a magnificent roof, rows of pillars, large sun window at the entrance. The main hall is decorated with sculptures of men and women, elephants and horses.
Bhaja Caves :
Bhaja caves is also known as Bhaje Caves is situated in Bhaja near to Lonavala which was built by Buddhist in the 200 BC. These Caves are located about 400 ft above the Bhaja Village and have series of 22 rock-cut caves.
Bhaja caves consist of Chaityagrihas, Viharas, and Podhis. Among them, Chaityagrihas is most prominent excavation and consists of horses how celling also splendid wooden structures. Compare to Karla caves both of the architectural design will be same almost.
You will find 14 stupas which are relics of Monks where five stupas inside and remaining nine stupas are outside. Observe Verandah has tow famous reliefs in the front side one is the Sun and another one is Indra riding an elephant.
Wax Museum :
Wax Museum is India’s first and biggest max museum situated in Lonavala which opened in 2005 by Sunil Kandaloor.He is a wax artist from Kerala were built on the concept of Madame Tussauds Museum of London. The museum is quite and very interesting when compared with other wax museums.
There are many wax statues like Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi, M S Subbulakhshmi, Kapil Dev, Charlie Chaplin, Narendra Modi.In addition to these, you can also Shirdi Sai Baba. Museum has around 100 wax statues of famous people.
Sometimes statues looks original as those personals.Its amazing to see all statues together and with his hard work, the number of statues increasing day by day. Wax Museum opens every day only closed on National Holidays.
Lohagarh Fort :
Lohagarh fort is one of the Iron fort situated close to Lonavala at a height of 1050 M above the sea level.The fort was built by Guru Govind Singh in 1564 CE.There are four gates which is in good condition. Among them main entrance looks like “Delhi Gate” and the remaining three gates are linked to this main gate.
Most popular for trekking place. Its easy to trek by seeing lush green surroundings were trek is popular in Monsoon season.The trek starts from Malavli to Lohagad covered in two hours. From here you can see Pawna Lake.
Tikona Fort :
Tikona Fort is also known as Triangle Fort situated in Maval region of Lonavala at height of 3,600 feet above the sea level. Main entrance was major attraction in this place. The fort has seven tanks which are main source of water. The fort also encloses to Buddhist, Satvahan Caves and Trimbakeshwar Mahadev.
The tikona fort is a great trekking destination for adventurous people. There is a temple on the top of peak observe statue of Lord Hanuman.It takes 2 hours to reach the fort by trekking.Perfet place to photography lovers they will enjoy the view.
