Chikkamagalur is a famous hill station in Karnataka state. Chikkamagalur literally means “The town of the younger daughter” in the Kannada language. The major commercial crop is Coffee. Even this place is also known as the “Coffee Land” of Karnataka and one of the largest coffee producers in India. It attracts tourists from all over the country to enjoy cool and calm atmosphere.

The climate of Chikkamagalur is pleasant throughout the year. Its Karnataka’s highest peak and the entire region is tourist heaven. Tourists can enjoy trekking, nature walk, and beautiful waterfalls.

There is a many places to visit in Chikkamagalur such as Mullayanagiri, Hebbe Falls, Kudremukh National Park, Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, Baba Budangiri, Coffee Museum, Hirekolale Lake and Temples in Chikkamagalur.

Mullayanagiri :

Mullayanagiri is also known as ‘The Highest peak In Karnataka’ which is close to 1930 m above the sea level. This mountain peak is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It considered as the highest peak between the Nilgiris and the Himalayas.

Mullayanagiri is also known as a coffee plantation. It is best for adventure, especially for trekkers. As you walk on Mullayanagiri Hill the cold wind touches your face at that moment you will enjoy the climate and feel relax. Observe the BSNL tower which is few kilometers away from the peak.

It’s a bit difficult as the road becomes narrow where in weekends the traffic jams run up half a kilometer. Moreover, you can camp overnight at Mullayanagiri. Enjoy sunset view sitting in your cottages and tents. Yes, you can take tents along with you in mullayangiri. The trek route to the peak starts from Sarpadaari.On Sunny days the Arabian sea can be witnessed from the peak. You can see the Western Ghats by standing on a top of peak.

Hebbe Falls :

Hebbe Falls is situated in Kemmanagundi Hill in Chikkamagalur town in Karnataka. The waterfall springs down from a height of 551 ft or 168 m in two steps as Chikka Hebbe (Big Falls) and Dodda Hebbe (Small Falls). The falls are surrounded by greenery and dense forest. This is the perfect place to break away from the busy life of the city.

Hebbe Falls is always considered as freshwater where natural herbs mixed into the water. These water gives more healthy and feels the difference in taste. To reach the waterfall by walk or Government provide private vehicle like a jeep. During the monsoon, the waterfall sound will be heard from afar and for tourists needs to be careful because the route is slippery and dangerous. Kudremukh National Park :

Kudremukh National Park is situated in Chikkamagalur District in Karnataka with an altitude of 1894 m from above sea level. In the year of 1987 declared as a National Park with a total area is about 600 sq km. This park is covered by forest and surrounded by coffee and tea plantations.

This park has about 190 species of birds such as Malabar trogon, great pied and the imperial pigeon. It is a variety of wildlife such as tiger, wild dogs, bear, deer, leopard, tortoises, and snakes are also found in this park. Tourists can enjoy the park and if want they can also stay at the Forest Rest Houses or outside the park in hotels and etc.

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary :

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is located between Chikkamagalur and Shimoga districts in Karnataka. It is also known as Muthodi Wildlife Sanctuary. India’s has declared as 25th nature reserve for tiger in the year of 1998. The sanctuary has a large population of tiger covering an area more than 450 sq km. This will be the height of 1800 m from above the sea level. In this park, you can see tigers in their natural habitat where privates jeep are available for safaris. If not Bus are also considered.

There are more than 200 species of birds and you can go with a specialized person will explain to you which birds will found on which part of the jungle. Other activities are water-based adventures, trekking, and rock climbing. The sanctuary is also home for Butterflies.

Baba Budangiri (Datta Peeta) :

Baba Budangiri is also known as Chandra Drona Paravatha located in the Baba Budan Giri range in Chikkamagalur district of Karnataka with an altitude of 1895 m from above sea level. This name is derived from Muslim saint Baba Budan who lived here. Even this place is also important for Hindu as Dattatreya Peetha. During the Diwali festival, a beacon (light) is placed. This is a place for both Hindus and Muslims.

Babu Budangiri was the first place where coffee seeds were found in Chikkamagalur. There is a famous trekking trail between Mullayanagiri and Baba Budangiri. Interestingly many tourists will come to see the unique mountain flower named as Kurinji which bloom once in every 12 years.

Coffee Museum located in Chikkamagalur district in Karnataka. This museum offers the best coffee description in the world. The museum explains how the coffee-making process, from plucking beans to its processing, grinding and packing. The staff of the museum will explain everything clearly about coffee doubts. Temples in Chikkamagalur :

Belavadi :

Belavadi is a unique temple and its a national heritage site in Karnataka. Belavadi is village surrounded by lush greenery situated in Chikkamagalur District in Karnataka. A famous Sri. Veeranaryana temple was constructed by the Hoysalas in the 13th Century. The central shine of the temple Sri. Veera Narayana 8 ft tall stands with four hands were one of the most well structured by Hoysalas.

The temple is a three-peaked mountain having Sri.Veera Narayana in the center in East Facing, Sri.Venugopala in North and Sri.Yoganarsimha in South. The entrance to the temple found two elephants with long Mandapa. The mandapa is well constructed with two different structure like one is square and the other one is a star. You can observe bell-shaped pillars and decorated roof. When you do pradakshina in temple find different images like Vishnu Avatara, Ganesha, Lord Shiva, Parvathi and etc.

Sringeri :

Sringeri is a town located in the Chikkamagalur District in Karnataka. It is world famous house for Sri Sringeri Sarada Peetham. This was established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th Century AD.The temple is well known as a learning center where many students come here and learn vedic philosophy.This temple is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati.

Adi Shankaracharya choose to stay here more than 11 years and constructed four temples in four directions include Kere Anjaneya Temple in West, Kala Bhairava in East, Durgamba Temple in South and Kalikamba Temple in North. The sringeri town is on the bank of Tunga River.
